Obituary for Alexander Sagan

Alexander Sagan, 77, of Vinton, IA, died Sat., Dec. 9, at his home in Vinton following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thurs., Dec. 14, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vinton. Visitation will be Wed., Dec. 13, from 5 to 8 PM and one hour prior to services Thursday, all at the church. Interment with military rites will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Alexander was born January 4, 1929, in Kansas City, KS, the son of Nicholas and Anna Yarich Sagan. He graduated from Rockhurst College in Kansas City, KS.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He worked as a Cost Accountant for General Mills for 37 years, retiring in June of 1989.
He married Joanne Bergly on September 14, 1963, in Minneapolis.
Alexander resided in Kansas City, KS, and Minneapolis prior to moving to Vinton in November of 2000.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vinton.
Alexander’s joys in life were his family, bowling, golfing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife Joanne; two sons: Tim (Beth) of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Nick (Angela) of Vinton; one sister, Mary Ann (Chet) Korona of Kansas City, KS; and six grandchildren: Nicholas, Rachel, Grant, Nolan, Anna and Josephine Sagan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Florence; one daughter, Paula Sagan; and one sister, Helen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1206 C Ave., Vinton, IA 52349.
