Obituary for Beverly Jeanette Usher

Beverly Jeanette Usher, age 79, formerly of Shellsburg, died of pancreatic cancer at her daughter's home in Joplin, MO, on November 14, 2008 with her family at her side.  

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton.    Inurnment will follow at the Palo Cemetery. 

Beverly Jeanette Usher was born November 25, 1928 in Los Angeles, CA, the daughter of Nick and Eileen Baker.  She was raised in Los Angeles and graduated from high school there.  On November 27, 1957 she married Lester Usher in Los Angeles and the couple moved to Shellsburg, IA.  Beverly worked at the Vinton Lutheran Home for twenty five years.  Following Lester's death on January 28, 1988 she moved to Fairwiew, MO, where she lived until moving to Joplin six years ago.  Beverly was an avid reader and enjoyed baking cookies but her greatest pleasure came from her family and her grandchildren. 

Beverly is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen Matthews and husband, Larry, Joplin, MO, Tina Fowler and significant friend, Roger Rouse, Vinton, IA, and Lisa Kisling and husband, John, Urbana, IA; six step-daughters, Diane Judge, Cedar Rapids, IA, Theresa Lint, Chester, IL, Carolyn Reeves and husband, William, Connie McGee, Janet Schamel and husband, Carl, and Pam Manche, all of Perryville, MO; two step-sons, John Usher, Perryville MO, and Steve Lint, St. Louis, MO; one brother, Robert A. Baker and wife, Marilyn, Freemont, CA; one sister, Shirley A. Bates and husband, Richard, Grants Pass, OR; 26 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great- grandchildren.   

In addition to her husband, Lester, she was preceded in death by her parents.
