Obituary for Burns Mossman

Burns was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March 17, 1983, to Mark and Kathy Mossman of Vinton.  He died at age twenty-five on March 15, 2009, of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
He is survived by his parents, Mark and Kathy Mossman, his brother, John Mossman, sister-in-law, Shelley, and his niece, Chloe, to whom he was her devoted Uncle Boo.  He is also survived by his grandparents, Keith Mossman of Vinton and John and Ruth Donnelly of Independence; uncles and aunts Hugh and Barb Mossman, Mike and Kathy Mossman, Nancy Mossman, Mike and Deb Donnelly, Andy and Penny Donnelly, Dick Donnelly and Tom and Jackie Donnelly; cousins Ben, Jared, Brian, Chris, Brittany, Katie, Ann, Taylor and Kristin; and a special friend, Amber Frommelt.  He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Becky Mossman, uncle, Burns Mossman and cousin, Ben Mossman.
Burnsy graduated from Washington High School in Vinton and obtained a BA degree from the University of Iowa.  In school he played football and baseball, acted in community theatre and graduated with honors.  He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.  Following graduation he was employed by Bankers Life and then Aegon, working as a new business case coordinator.  He enjoyed family vacations, tailgating, dodge ball, softball, golf, tubing down the Cedar River and virtually any social activity in the company of his friends and family.  He loved a party.
A young man with a fearless, irrepressible joy for life and an intuitive gift for bringing smiles to all he knew; a selfless, caring and boundless personality; and possessed with a strong will impossible to discourage, dissuade or divert from the path he alone chose.  He brightened rooms he entered.  He lightened souls he touched.  We were blessed to have him in our lives and miss him more deeply than can be expressed.  Born on St. Patrick’s Day.  Died with a heart the angels will love.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2200 S. 2nd Ave., Vinton, with Father David Ambrosy as Celebrant.  Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, also at St. Mary’s in Vinton, with a 7:30 p.m. Scripture Service led by Sister Mary Hargrafen.  There will also be visitation from 9:30 until service time on Thursday.  Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chloe Mossman Educational Fund in care of US Bank, 110 W. 4th St., Vinton, IA 52349.
