Obituary for David F. Dunn

David F. Dunn, 70, of Vinton, died Monday, December 22, 2008, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton due to congestive heart failure.
As per his wishes, David’s body has been deeded to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City.  Private family services will be held at a later date followed by inurnment in Crivitz, Wisconsin.
David was born May 2, 1938, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Floyd F. and Esther Bortz Dunn.  He attended Bartlett Avenue Elementary in Milwaukee and graduated from Shorewood High School in Shorewood, WI, in 1956.
David served his country in the United States Navy.
On February 11, 1961, in Crivitz, Wisconsin, David was united in marriage with Virginia Caroline Swick.  She preceded him in death on December 1, 2008.
David worked as a business system analyst for American Motors, Tuttle Press and National Oats.  He retired in June of 1995.
David believed with all his heart that everyone should have a little red wagon filled with their hopes, dreams, aspirations, inspiration and, yes, even problems.  The “Secret to Life” he often said, “was to never stop pulling your wagon, adding life’s memories as treasures along the way.  Even if your wagon becomes a fire engine at times, due to problems and illness, never stop pulling.”  Though his latter years were challenging due to health issues, David pulled until the very end, and now he and his beloved Virginia are together again in the eternal kingdom.
David is survived by one son, Daniel (Kimberly) Dunn of Fort Worth, TX; three daughters: Debra (Kevin) Kacena of Vinton; Diane Krumm of Madison, WI; and Cindy (Dale) Dunn of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Margaret Kilb of Milwaukee, WI; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; one sister, Barbara Calbaum; and one great-granddaughter, Madelyn Cline.
A memorial fund has been established at Best of Iowa Community Credit Union, 412 1st Ave., Vinton, IA 52349.
