Obituary for Eileen M. Hite

Eileen M. Hite, 90, of Vinton, died Sunday, December 30, 2007, at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.    Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, January 5, 2008, at First Christian Church in Vinton. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM Friday, January 4, 2008, at Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.    Eileen was born March 30, 1917, in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Mark and Marie Stewart Reynolds. She graduated from Shellsburg High School.    On December 16, 1936, Eileen was united in marriage with Harold LaVerne Hite. He preceded her in death in April of 1977.    Eileen worked as a homemaker and as a cook for the Vinton school system for 15 years.    Eileen was very active in Vinton’s community activities. She was a member and past President of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member and Officer of the Navy Mothers. She was also a volunteer for the Vinton Chapter of the Red Cross. Eileen was also a member of First Baptist Church.    Eileen is survived by five sons: Marvin (Marilyn) Hite of Vinton; Mike (Becky) Hite of Gresham, OR; Steve (Sue) Hite of Vinton; Richard Hite of Mill Valley, CA; and Gary (Jackie) Hite of Vacaville, CA; one daughter, Lynda Nelson of Pittsburg, KS; three sisters: Marian Stark of Vinton; Connie (Roland) Schulte of Norway; and Audrey (Dean) Mullinex of Grand Lake, CO; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; one son, Jim Hite; one granddaughter, Traci Nelson; one son-in-law, Lee Nelson; one sister, LaVonne Frank and one brother, Mark Ross Reynolds, Jr.    A memorial fund has been established.
