Obituary for Eva Juliana Fricka

Eva Juliana Fricka, 93, of Vinton, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, February 14, 2010, in her home at the Vinton Lutheran Home Assisted Living Apartments.
    Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vinton with Father David Ambrosy officiating.  Visitation will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, in the Chapel at the Vinton Lutheran Home.  Cremation will follow services, and Eva will be inurned with her husband in Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, Illinois, in the summer of 2010.
    Eva was born October 9, 1916, in Danville, Illinois, the daughter of Peter and Clementine Josephitis, Sr.  She graduated from high school in Illinois.
    Eva worked at Western Electric in Cicero, Illinois.  It was here that she met her future husband, Joseph Patrick Fricka.  The couple was united in marriage on February 14, 1942, in Chicago.  Following their marriage, Eva left Western Electric and worked as a homemaker.  Joseph preceded Eva in death on January 9, 1984.  With Eva’s death, they were reunited in Heaven on their 68th wedding anniversary.
    Eva was a member of Our Lady of the Mount in Cicero, IL; St. John of the Cross in Western Springs, IL; and had been a member of St. Mary’s in Vinton since she moving to Vinton two years ago.
She enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for her kolaches and apple strudel.  She also enjoyed reading autobiographies and historical works.  She also liked to play the slots from time to time.  On a trip to Lake Tahoe with her son, Bob, she won big on a penny slot machine, taking home $125. 
    Eva is survived by one son, Bob (Kay) Fricka of Glendale, AZ; one daughter, Margie Markowski of Urbana; one step-son, Joel (Doris) Fricka of Crest Hill, IL; one step-daughter-in-law, Lorraine Fricka of the Washington, D.C. area; one sister-in-law, Margaret Josephitis of Clarendon Hills, IL; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nephews. 
    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; step-son Ronald Fricka; and siblings John, Peter, Bill and Mary.
