Obituary for Evelyn Van Deusen

Vinton—Evelyn Van Deusen, 95, died peacefully Saturday, April 04, 2015 at Windsor Manor in Vinton from natural causes. 
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at First Christian Church in Vinton with Rev. Connie Wacht and Rev. Lexie Kirkpatrick officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 6, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton and also one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.  Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown.
Evelyn Doretha Pearson Van Deusen was born September 22, 1919 in Agency, Iowa, the daughter of Lora and Ona Carter Pearson.  She graduated from Farson High School in 1938.  On April 7, 1940 she was united in marriage with Francis Van Deusen in Farson.  The couple farmed near Garrison and Evelyn always had lots of flowers and lots of cats on the farm.   Evelyn was a member of the Garrison United Methodist Church where she was active in the Women’s Society.  They moved to Vinton in 1994 when their grandson moved to the farm house.  Evelyn enjoyed bowling and dancing.  She and Francis danced together for decades and Evelyn continued to attend dances until last fall. 
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Judith (Robert) Clark, Cedar Falls and Carolyn (Jim) Kearns, Garrison; son, Francis Steven Van Deusen, Van Horne; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joyce Pearson, Independence; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, Carl Edmonds.
 She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2002; four brothers, Harry Cecil,  Ora “Bud”,  Joe and Keith; three sisters, Mitzie, Lola and Fern. 
A memorial fund has been established.
