Obituary for Godfrey Miller

Godfrey Miller, 82, of Vinton, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab following a prolonged illness.     Services will be held 7 PM Monday, July 2, 2007, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 307 N. K Ave., Vinton, with Timothy Hainey officiating. There will be no visitation as his body has been cremated.    Godfrey was born May 18, 1925, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Reinhold and Gertrude Wieiskirchen Miller. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a former resident of Cedar Falls, and had been a Vinton resident for the past 25 years.     He married Elizabeth Jean Cram, and they were later divorced. He then married Marilyn Jean Hewitt on September 11, 1982, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Vinton.    Godfrey was self-employed as a painter, specializing in woodgrain metal doors.     He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Vinton.    Godfrey is survived by his wife, Marilyn Miller of Vinton; two sons: Brian D. (Debbie) Miller of Waterloo, and Joel (Helen) Miller of Raymore, MO; five daughters: Elaine (Larry) Sherbon of Cedar Falls, Sindy (Brian) Yant of Norway, Shari (Dave) Jacobson of Waterloo, Stacy (Jeremy) Koopman of Vinton, and Shelly Stephenson of Vinton; one brother: Erwin (Elinor) Miller of South Carolina; one sister: Irma Mortimer of California; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way.    He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Elizabeth Jean; and one brother, Arthur Miller.    Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 307 N. K Avenue, Vinton, IA 52349.
