Obituary for Kathryn Elizabeth Streeter

Kathryn Elizabeth Streeter, 90, died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Windsor Manor Assisted Living in Vinton following a lengthy illness.
    Memorial services will be held 11 AM Saturday, July 19, 2008, at First Christian Church in Vinton with visitation from 10 AM until service time.  Rev. Connie Wacht will officiate.  Kathryn’s body has been cremated, and inurnment will take place in Brandon Cemetery at a later date.
    Kathryn was born January 22, 1918, in Jesup, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur G. and Dessa M. McKibben Young.  She was a 1936 graduate of Independence High School and spent two years each at Drake University and the University of Iowa.
    On June 22, 1945, she married Roy A. Streeter in Independence, Iowa.  He preceded her in death in 1983.  
    Kathryn worked as a draftsman at General Motors in Detroit for one year and at John Deere in Waterloo for one year.  She was a psychiatric aide at the Mental Health Institute in Independence for two and a half years, and she worked for ten years at the nursing home in Brandon before retiring.
    She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Brandon Garden Club.  She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and walking on the Cedar Valley Nature Trail near Brandon.  She loved animals and had many pets, and she and her husband also raised goats.
    She is survived by four sons: Stephen (Sandy) and Craig (Vicki) of Vinton, Dennis of Brandon and Gene of Tucson, AZ; one daughter, Linda Streeter of Dumont; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  
    Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister and one brother.
