Obituary for Kenneth P. Krug

Kenneth Paul “Kenny” Krug, 83, of Garrison, passed away Friday, March 14, 2008, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone following a long illness. 
    Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Rev. Jan Ziskovsky officiating.  Visitation will be Monday, March 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and also one hour prior to services on Tuesday.  Interment will be in Garrison Cemetery.  
    Kenny was born March 7, 1925, in rural Dysart, the son of Edward and Bertha B. Urmy Krug.  He graduated from Dysart High School in 1943.  Kenny married Marjorie Ann Chizum on March 7, 1946, at the Methodist Church in Vinton.  
    Kenny was a lifelong Garrison area farmer and had worked for Wilson Packing Company in Cedar Rapids for a short time.  He was a member of the Garrison United Methodist Church for many years, Farm Bureau, Cedar Valley Polka Club, Dysart Square Dance Club, and was a former board member of the Garrison Cemetery.  He was the first farmer in Benton County to have and raise Charolais cattle.
    Kenny is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie, of rural Garrison; four sons: David (and his friend Marvin Kerr) of North Liberty, Larry (Allyn) of Long Grove, Lyle of Cedar Rapids, and Tom of Oak Harbor, Washington; two daughters:  Connie (Milo) Kearns of rural Shellsburg, and Kathy Krug of West Branch; one daughter-in-law, Renee Krug of Remsen; one brother, Ervin (Darlene) Krug of La Porte City; one sister, Vera Nissen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Nadine Krug of Mt. Auburn; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Lloyd; two brothers:  Marvin and Gale Krug; one sister-in-law, Esther Krug; and one brother-in-law, Elmer Nissen. 
    A memorial fund has been established in lieu of flowers.
