Obituary for Lloyd Dean Sturtz

Lloyd D. Sturtz, 60, a lifelong resident of rural Urbana, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2008, at his home near Urbana following a lingering illness.    Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, February 25, 2008, at Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Pastor Dennis Sackett officiating. Visitation will be held 3-6 PM at the funeral home Sunday, February 24, and 8-10 AM Monday. Interment will be in Urbana Cemetery.    Lloyd was born on the family farm near Urbana on October 2, 1947, the son of Harry Albert and Velma C. Christy Sturtz. He graduated from Urbana High School in 1967 and was the recipient of the Iowa State Bar Association’s Citizenship Award.    Lloyd continued his education at Kirkwood Community College. He finished the 4-year Ag Mechanics program in two years. He worked as a mechanic for farm equipment, specializing in John Deere machinery, for which he completed numerous training courses. He was employed by Keystone Implement for two years and L & D Implement until the mid-1980’s before opening his own shop at his home. He remained self-employed until his death.    Lloyd was an avid gardener, tended his orchard and worked with honeybees. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for his ever-present smile.    Lloyd is survived by his mother, Velma Sturtz, of rural Urbana; three brothers: George of rural Urbana, Roger A. (Jean) of Urbana, and Roy of rural Vinton; two nieces and three nephews: Shauna Graesser, Andrew, Nicholas and Cristopher Sturtz and Peggy Coleson.    He was preceded in death by his father, Harry, on October 8, 1963, and his sister-in-law, Rhonda Sturtz.    A memorial fund has been established.
