Margie D. Goodell, 90, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at her home at Windsor Manor in Vinton due to natural causes.

Margie was born July 21, 1924, in rural Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Bernice M. Goon Davis. She was raised in Benton County and attended country school. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton in 1942.

On November 11, 1946, Margie was united in marriage with Leland Goodell at the Presbyterian Church in Vinton. They farmed together in Benton County, and Margie was a devoted, loving wife. Leland preceded her in death on December 13, 2003.

Margie was a mother and grandmother figure in the lives of her family members. In 1966, she took in her nephew, Jim. She tried her best to raise him, and she never missed one of his baseball games.

Margie worked as an Office Manager and Bookkeeper at the Ford dealerships in Vinton for 40+ years, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of the Vinton Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Jackson Jolly Timers. She enjoyed traveling, reading and her friends. She also liked “socializing” outside, drinking “tea” from her white coffee cup.

Margie is survived by and greatly loved and appreciated her niece, Carol (Richard) Carlyle; her nephew, Jim Clime; 5 great-nieces and nephews; 10 great-great-nieces and nephews, plus another great-niece on the way; and 6 great-great-great nieces and nephews with 2 more great-great-great-nieces on the way. She enjoyed life with her family, especially holidays. She valued her family and friends so much. Her ornery grin will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Kathleen Clime; and one nephew, Bill Clime.

A memorial fund has been established.
