Obituary for Marvill K. Mostrom

Marvill K. Mostrom, 92, of Vinton, died Thursday, October 4, 2012, at the Vinton Lutheran Home. Private family services with military honors will be held at a later date.
   Marvill was born March 29, 1920, in Lake Mills, Iowa, on his family’s farm in rural Winnebago County, the son of Arthur K. and Sarah Dolen Mostrom. He attended country school in Winnebago County and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1942.
   Marvill proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force from 1942 until 1946, working as a mechanic and instrument specialist. He was discharged as a Sergeant.
   On April 20, 1946, Marvill was united in marriage with Martha E. Nelson at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 2002.
   Marvill worked for the City Municipal Department in Lake Mills for 20 years, the last 10 of which he was the Superintendent of all utilities. He was the Superintendent of Electric Utilities in Vinton for 23 years, retiring in April of 1985.
   Marvill was a member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton where he served on the church council and as an usher. He was also a member of the Red Cedar Chapter of Isaac Walton and Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 in Vinton.
   Marvill is survived by two daughters: Susan Mostrom of Sterling, IL, and Carol (Lon) Hutson of Tama; one son: Bruce Mostrom of Vinton; four grandchildren: Stacy (Sasha) Mostrom, James Mostrom, Rebecka Hutson and Chad (Diana) Hutson; and four great-grandchildren: Minnie Mostrom and Taryn, Jayden and Claire Hutson.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha; five brothers: Arnell, Virgil, Truman, Spencer and Dale Mostrom; and two sisters: Lorraine Stolen and Gladys Cunningham.
   A memorial fund has been established.
