Obituary for Mary J. Williams

Mary J. Williams, 72, died Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a brief battle with cancer.

    Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Blessed Hope Church with Rev. Matt Hantz officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 27, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Per Mary’s wishes, she will be cremated following the service.

    Mary was born April 10, 1942, in La Porte City, Iowa, the daughter of John Adam “Jack” and Letha Dawn Ferguson Aschenbrenner. She graduated from East High School in Waterloo.

    Mary was the Director of Social Services in Benton County, Iowa, for many years, retiring in May of 2013.

    She was a member of Blessed Hope Church in Vinton, and she enjoyed a mission trip to the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky through the church.

    Mary enjoyed gardening, bird watching, traveling, boating, fishing, riding horses and most outdoor activities.

    Mary is survived by her children: Samona Klinzing of New Braunfels, TX; Kelly (John) Cover of Cedar Rapids; and Bart (Angie) Klinzing of Mt. Auburn; dear friend, Ernie Gutierrez, of Omaha, NE; two brothers: Jack (Carol) Aschenbrenner of La Porte City and Lyle (Ann) Aschenbrenner of Vinton; five grandchildren: Breece, Nic, Mykiaya, Cole and Cameron; and three great-grandchildren: Faith, Avyanna and Zara.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Nicholas Richard Klinzing and Thomas Williams; two brothers, Robert and James Aschenbrenner; and one sister, Betty Lee.

    A memorial fund has been established.


Funeral service: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Blessed Hope Church.
