Obituary for Milton Carl "Mike" Scheib

Milton Carl “Mike” Scheib, 85, died Sunday, April 1, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids due to natural causes.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Oak Grove Church in Shellsburg with Pastor Matt Magee officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Private family inurnment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton, with military rites provided by American Legion Post 57 of Vinton and Iowa Military Funeral Honors of Des Moines.
Mike was born December 7, 1932, in Keystone, Iowa, the son of Philip Carl and Esther Ellen Stevenson Scheib.
Mike proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of George G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 of Vinton and served as their Chaplain.
On September 12, 1954, Mike was united in marriage with Lily Marie Jessop at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They later divorced. On January 25, 1997, Mike was united in marriage with Karen Ann Willson in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 1, 2015.
Mike was an Assistant Engineer with Iowa Electric Light and Power and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers.
When Mike resided in Swisher, he was very active in the community. He served as Mayor and volunteered for the Swisher Fire Department and First Responders and was a member of the Swisher Men’s Club. Mike was a member of Oak Grove Church in rural Shellsburg. He was a member of the NRA and a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club. He loved fishing in Canada and hunting.
Mike is survived by his children, Bruce (Jerri) Scheib of Mason, OH, and Tammy (Art) Jurchen of Urbana; brothers Marlin “Bud” (Ann) Scheib of Thomasville, GA; Larry (DeeAnn) Scheib of Cedar Rapids; and Lyle Scheib of Craig, CO; sister Faith (Tom) Kincheloe of Cedar Rapids; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and special fishing buddy, Ronnie Kerkman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lily Marie; second wife, Karen Scheib; and Brother in Christ, Charles “Chuck” Tharp.
A memorial fund has been established.
