Obituary for Richart Lee Mann

Richart Lee "Dick" Mann, 77, of Moline, Illinois, died Friday, January 26, 2018, at his home.
A memorial and committal service will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at 10:00 am. Family and friends will gather for a luncheon immediately after the ceremony at the home of Ted & Jeanne Mann, 1521 Circle Drive, Vinton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Vinton Veteran’s Memorial in honor of Dick Mann, a U.S. Navy veteran.
Richart Lee Mann was born Aug. 24, 1940, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Harold Etna "Curly" and Maxine Marie Richart Mann. He served in the U. S. Navy and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). He married Julie Schwanke in Vinton in 1961, and they later divorced. He married Doris Jump on May 24, 1983, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She died Dec. 2, 2012. After his service in the U.S. Navy and upon graduation from UNI, Dick taught history at Garnavillo High School where he was also the head coach for the varsity girls’ basketball team. After teaching at Garnavillo, he was employed by Deere & Company, Inc. for 33 years (Waterloo, Iowa, and East Moline, Illinois), retiring as Personnel Director in the 1990s. Following his retirement from Deere, he was branch manager and technical recruiter for Volt Services Group in San Diego, California, and Davenport, Iowa, and a technical recruiter for B & M Associates in San Diego.
Dick was an avid golfer. As a high school all-American running back, he loved sports, college basketball and football in particular. While living in San Diego, he loved watching the Chicago Bears games at Rocky’s Crown Pub on Ingraham Street on Sundays. He was a die-hard Republican whose favorite Presidents were Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan. He was also an amateur military historian who was proud of his "war room" at his home in Moline.
Dick is survived by four children and their spouses: Scott and Debra Mann of Menifee, CA; Bradley and Barb Mann of Deale, MD; Stacy Mann of Moline, IL; and Jason and Allison Mann of Costa Mesa, CA; nine grandchildren: Lindsey, Kalie (fiancé, Alex Gould) and Tyler Mann; Brittnie (fiancé Craig McDowell), Owen and Emma Larson; and Henry, Hudson and Harper Mann; three great-grandchildren: Izaiha, Jayvon, and Jayce McDowell; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ted and Jeanne Mann and Mark and Becky Mann, all of Vinton; and Mike and Barb Mann of Davenport; and his former wife, Julie Mann of Menifee, CA. Dick was also blessed with step-children from his second marriage to Doris: Ron and Linda Jump, Randy, Rick and Robert Jump, Rick and Marybeth (Jump) Clark and Russell Jump. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curly and Maxine Mann; his wife, Doris; and two step-sons, Randy and Russell Jump.
