Obituary for Van Keith Miller

Vinton—Van K. Miller, 66, died peacefully Sunday, September 23, 2018 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Memorial visitation will be 4 to7 pm Friday, September 28, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Vinton. Funeral services will be at 11 am Saturday at the First Christian Church in Vinton with Pastor Dave Neas officiating. Private family inurnment will be in McBroom Cemetery, rural Shellsburg. Military Rites will be conducted at church following the service by the Iowa Military Funeral Honors and the George G. Luckey American Legion Post #57.
Van was born July 17, 1952 in Ames, Iowa, the son of Donald and Betty Patton Miller. He graduated from Boone High School in 1970, attended Iowa State University and graduated from Wichita State University in 1990. On May 20, 1972 he married Kathy Neve at the Oak Grove Church in Shellsburg. From 1979 to 1984 he served his country in the United States Air Force.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Vinton, the George G Luckey American Legion Post 57 and the Benton City Masonic Lodge 81. Van frequently volunteered to help Kathy at Heritage Nursing and Rehab in Cedar Rapids. He also enjoyed volunteering at the First Christian Church and the Vinton Legion Post.
He was a fanatical Yankees and Celtics fan, an avid reader and a wine collector. He enjoyed trivia, Beatles music, movies, antiques and Christmas. His greatest enjoyment came from his family and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathy, Vinton; son, James (Wendy) Miller, Center Point; daughter, Lisa (Brendan) Rule, Vinton; brothers, Kim (Dawn) Miller, Kansas City, MO and Nick (Carla) Miller, Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Teresa Miller, Polk City, IA and nine grandchildren, Madyson, Jaxson, Hudson, Bryson and Emmerson Rule and Vannessa, Lily, Lola, and Olivia Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Matt.
A memorial fund has been established.
