Obituary for Wayne Eugene Roster

Wayne Eugene Roster, 78, of Vinton, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2007, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, at Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Rev. Jan Ziskovsky officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 26, at the funeral home.    Wayne was born on June 24, 1929, to Loren M. and Kate M. (Graham) Roster in Vinton, Iowa. He attended school in Vinton, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1948. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He had worked for various businesses as a mechanic until starting Wayne’s Repair in April of 1971. He had obtained his pilot’s license for small aircraft, loved to go to auctions and buy antiques and used natural resources, such as wood, for heating. His greatest love was being with his family.    On November 7, 1953, Wayne was united in marriage to Roxy Mavis Rammelsberg at the United Methodist Church in Vinton, and to this union, four children were born. Wayne and Roxy made their home in Vinton their entire married life.     He was a long time member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.     Wayne and his son, Curtis, were honored by the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School, the Board of Regents and Governor Terry E. Branstad in April of 1998 by receiving the Governor’s Annual Corporate Award for Volunteerism because of their service work for the school for more than 30 years.    Wayne is survived by his wife, Roxy; his children: Renea Roster of Waterloo, Curtis (Barb) Roster of Vinton, Kristy (Russell) Haefner of Dysart, and David W. Roster of White Bear Lake, Minn.; 10 grandchildren: Natalie, Julie, Jennifer, Joel, Neal, Alison, Adam, Megan, Rachel and Travis; six great-grandsons: Tanner, Kane, David, Malachi, Isaiah and Cody; two brothers: Jack (Betty) Roster of Canon City, Colo., and Dean Roster of Vinton; and one sister, Mardene Carr of Cedar Rapids.    Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jim Roster; and one great-grandson, Donald.    A memorial fund has been established in lieu of flowers.
